Sad news (as you maybe noticed because the gorilla banner was missing on our site):
“Gorilla Bicycles ist am Ende: Anfang Juli wurde der Konkurs über dem Zürcher Fixie-Spezialisten eröffnet.
Am vergangenen Dienstag wurde der Konkurs der Gorilla AG im Zürcher Handelsamtsblatt publiziert. Darin ist zu entnehmen, dass das zuständige Bezirksgericht die Firma am 1. Juli 2010 aufgelöst hat.
Gorilla hatte sich als junge Marke in der Fixie-Szene rasch einen Namen geschaffen. Die Velos aus Zürich wurden nicht nur im eigenen Shop, sondern auch bei einigen ausgewählten Velohändlern in der Schweiz und bei In-Shops in Europa, Amerika, Asien und Australien angeboten. Vom Konkurs betroffen sind neben dem Gorilla-Gründer Thomas Schreier auch die Gebrüder Freitag vom gleichnamigen Kulttaschen-Hersteller. Sie waren erst im vergangenen Jahr als Investoren bei Gorilla eingestiegen.”

will there be like a blowout sale of gorilla frames or anything?
if theres is someone who buy the whole bankrupt’s assets and try to continue with the brand ill guess not. otherwise there could be a good chance that you can buy gorillas at some auction.
sehr schade, aber ich wusste nicht mal, dass es sich bei gorilla um eine schweizer marke handelt…meiner meinung nach hätte man mehr auf solide “swissness” und weniger auf “hipster” setzten sollen.
@Silvio — yeah that’s what I was thinking of. sometimes, when firms go out of business, there are like auctions where they sell everyting – interior, assets, whatever. and I thought in this case maybe frames or parts or whatever. you know, they probably need the money!

mit solider swissness meine ich zeitloses design, extrem gute qualität und understatement. die sache war für meinen geschmack etwas zu hipster-mässig aufgezogen – stress lässt grüssen. stattdessen hätte man doch auch mal richtig gute bahnrad-replicas (nach schweizer bahntradition) bauen und können…nur meine meinung, no offence.

rocketroll? war wohl der inbegriff eines guten vintage remake! handmade by “Ciocc” himself! und ich find der hattara war der inbegriff von zeitlosem design keine schnörkel keine extras und steiff wie sau! btw. die rahmen waren aus italienischer manufaktur eben von “ciocc”. Naja die ganze freestyle schoose ware eh höchst fragwürdig!!

zugegeben, so gut kenn ich die einzelnen modelle gar nicht. klingt aber gut. hab mich vieleicht zu sehr vom freestyle-zeugs blenden lassen…

ja das freestyle/hipster ding passte nicht zu gorilla (meine meinung)! obwohl man sagt dass der killroy ein super rahmen sei… aber ich versteh das fix-freestyle ding im allgemeinen eh nicht.

@morf – Ich hatte keine Ahnung was Du unter “swissness” meinst, doch nichts für ungut!! ich selber fand einige modelle schön, das hatara ist wohl das erfolgreichste bike gewesen – hab ich auf diversen sites sehen können. Stress- Nein, das fand ich weniger toll, doch ich mag diesen “künstler” irgendwie sonst nicht..

Easy, die meiste Leute haben eh keine Ahnung, und das ist der Sinn der Nischen-Strategie… Die grosse Masse überfliegt die wahre Werte, einige bleiben kurz an der Oberfläche hängen und die Kenner geniessen die Erfüllung ihrer Träume!) Ride On!
the hattara made in italia, no way, exact frame like the taiwanese made bareknuckle from euro asia, the other frames were made by ciöcc, but i dont believe the hattara was a european product!

mag sein, dass ich keine ahnung hab aber ne nischenstrategie sieht m.e. etwas anders aus: nämlich ohne tamtam ein extrem solides produkt in kleinen stückzahlen herstellen, welches von den liebhabern respekt erhält und sich so langsam etablieren kann. ich fand dieses urbane-stress-freestyle-skater zeugs einfach kacke…

bareknukles arent made in taiwan nor china… cause thomas did import them himself by driving down to italy with a small transporter… they had this problem that the frame maker sold those frames also to EAI – so yeah the bareknukle is the exact same frame to an equal price.

btw. the newer (late 2009/2010) rocketrolls arent anymore made by ciocc (different backbride and these silly engravings at the dropouts).

Silvio, Thank you for trying to bring truth to the rumors and “sadly haters” of GOrilla. One man’s opinion a great idea in european bike making brought to an end before being fully realised, for me the efforts towards the FGFS market were not worth Thomas’s effort and expense, sadly under appreciated by many.
All the Gorilla Frame i personaly saw were amazing, nice craftmanship and sweet geometries. But i heard soooo many histories about people waiting for frames they ordered months and months ago. With all thoses bikes brands on the market right now, i can understand when people cancel or stop ordering gorilla frames to find cheaper and faster solutions.
I feel really sad for gorilla, cause i think they really got involved into the fixed gear scene, but not everything is the market’s fault…
@JB, I can understand people being unhappy with customer service but sometimes handmade in Italy comes with a price, patience and quality over needs met on the spot. Peace, Droode
i know and i totaly respect that. I think it was cool to see a company acting like this. You see a lot of custom frame builder with a one year waiting list, but they keep small business and can survive like that. Maybe Gorilla wanted to keep this spirit but it unfortunately didn’t fit with the inpatience of all this freestyle kids
like i said, it’s sad.

I was partner of Gorillabicycles from januay 2008 till april 2009. Then Im left, `cause I opened my own bikeshop.
I have no connections to Gorilla anymore. I don`t have to help or support them. But I think, sometimes I have to defend them against statements which are just not true. Like the “barenuckle=hattara”-myth.

it is just not fair to judge something,when you dont have all the informations needed :

ich persönlich bedaure das ein guter brand wie gorilla nicht bestehen konnte. sind wuderschöne frames mit super qualität. egal ob track oder freestyle, was ich nicht ganz verstehen kann… sind äusserungen über eine firma die mit leidenschaft ein tolles produkt herstellte,”das lag am hipster freestyle ding”…. ich denke keiner von euch hätte es besser machen können…. da gorilla nicht ein billig fernostrahmen herstellte…. den es zu kaufen gab für 200-300 franken…und später auf ebay für 80Euro noch als noname verkauft wurde…
wie auch immer… finde fixedgearswitzerland ein tolles NEGATIV beispiel…”chäschtlidenker schweiz”….alles was nicht am ursprung “bahnvelo” entspricht ist unverständlich hipster…und zum tode verurteilt…igendwie traurige ansicht “Naja die ganze freestyle schoose ware eh höchst fragwürdig!!” auf deutsch gesagt:
ist doch scheissegal ob ein altes damenvelo umbauen auf fixedgear mit korb, ein freestyleframe, ein trackframe mit geradem lenker mit korb oder ohne korb…..hauptsache sollte eigentlich eine gemeinschaft von überzeugten fixedgearfahrer im vordergrund stehen…egal welcher art….
oder seit ihr so real und das macht euch überhaupt nicht zum hipster!?

Ja wir haben es aufgekauft. Wir werden die Produktion nach Fribourg verlagern. Platz haben wir ja bald in der Cardinal Brauerei. Oder so
moment: ich hab nie gesagt, dass gorilla schlechte qualität baut(e) (würde ich mir nie anmassen). ich sprach vom image, welches gorilla offenbar verkörpern wollte – oder zumindest wie es für mich rüber kam… finds jedenfall genauso schade, dass es nicht geklappt hat.

du kennst uns schlecht wenn du denkst das wir nicht bahnradfahrer verachten. für uns steht das fahren im vordergrund und an unseren rennen sind alle velotypen erwünscht. verurteile nicht was du nicht kennst…
