i noticed this some time now and i really asking myself?

Sometimes it happens when you ride along in the city at your usual speed and passing a mountainbiker – quite like this one (well not a female, but you cant tell the difference anyway):

So you ride further your way and dont think anything bad. Then suddenly you hear that annoying sound of some offroad tires just right behind you “Brrrrrrrrrr”. You look back and there he is again! The same rider who drove at speed like every other casual cyclist just some moments ago when you passing him. But now he has this look on his face that he is eager to overtake you at any cost. Also when you need to stop at a red light this mountaineer cyclist tries to be first back on its ride. Why? i mean really! Why is this competition in their heads? Other bike riders dont care about. i mean when you pass a roadie no prob., they say hi and focus again on thier goal usual long distances. Can someone tell me? How come they cant stand to be overtaken?
